Our Story
When we launched in 2001 and created the world of online caregiving, we didn't have quite as many caregivers as we do now. So how did we get from there to here?

Before she became Sittercity's founder and President, Genevieve Thiers was your typical neighborhood babysitter: enthusiastic, fun and a pro at changing diapers. (Hey, when you're the oldest of seven children, it's hard not to be!) She babysat for her own brothers and sisters, neighbors and 30 other families while in college, but Genevieve hadn't thought about turning her passion into a career — until a pregnant stranger changed everything.

Sittercity: The Idea is Born
One day, from her dorm room window, Genevieve saw a very pregnant woman slowly climbing the many steps to Boston College's upper campus to post flyers for a babysitting job. Horrified, she sent the mother-to-be home and posted the flyers herself. While papering the university, Genevieve had an epiphany: What if there was one central place where parents could meet all the sitters in a city? And with this, Sittercity was born.

Sittercity Then
Armed with 20,000 flyers, Genevieve hand-delivered the Sittercity message to major Boston-area colleges. Not only did she find herself with an unprecedented amount of blisters, she also found 600 eager babysitters in the first three weeks. Parents immediately signed up and Sittercity quickly spread from city to city as parents and sitters kept joining in search of the perfect match.

Sittercity Now
Sittercity now has over a million caregiver profiles nationwide, with sitters in every city across the county - a far cry from those early days! In addition to babysitters and nannies, Sittercity also provides dog walkers, senior care providers and tutors. Care seekers can access Sittercity's vast network of caregivers two ways, through individual memberships or as an employee benefit through their employer.
