Construction Crew Leader

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

  • Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction, home repair, and neighborhood revitalization aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: HFH of Flathead Valley (HFHFV) is in Northwest Montana. The Flathead Valley is home to Glacier National Park, Flathead Lake, two ski resorts, unlimited trails for hiking, countless lakes and streams, outstanding arts and culture, charming small towns, and warm western hospitality. Kalispell is a small (< 30,000 residents) mountain town that offers a balance of city life and outdoor adventure with museums, theater, community events, and unlimited nearby recreational opportunities. Just east of Kalispell is Columbia Falls, where AmeriCorps members will be housed. It's a small town with a lively community. It is 20 minutes to Glacier National Park, a vast wilderness area with spectacular glacier-carved peaks and valleys, glacier-fed lakes and streams, and abundant wildlife. The park maintains more than 700 miles of trails, other activities include backpacking, cycling, camping, and national park programming. There is so much to see and discover while working with HFH Flathead Valley.
  • Unique projects: HFHFV is a unique project, with its vast rural areas and communities and recent population growth. In 2000, Flathead County was home to 75,000 residents and by 2021 it grew to 108,500, up 45%. The US population grew 18% and Montana's grew 22% during that same time. The need for affordable housing is unprecedented. The Flathead workforce is being driven out of the area. In 2012, the median house price in Flathead County was $197,750; in 2022, it was $655,400, a 231% increase in 10 years.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
